Granuloma Inguinale | Donovanosis
Granuloma Inguinale(Donovanosis) is a disease caused by bacteria which is common place in many underdeveloped regions of the world.
This disease often goes un-noticed because of the lack of medical facilities.
Granuloma Inguinale is often mistaken for syphilis in many cases but is later diagnosed by the charecteristic destruction of tissue and leakage of mucus and blood.
Classification of Granuloma Inguinale:
Granuloma Inguinale is commonly called Donovanosis.
It is an inflamatory reaction and refers to the inguinal region.
Granuloma Inguinale was discovered by Donovan and the causative organism for this infection are Klebsiella granulomatis, otherwise known as Calymmatobacterium granulomatis.
Symptoms of Granuloma Inguinale:
Small, painless lumps appear after about 10-40 days contact with the bacteria.
Later, the lumps burst open creating open lesions.
The infection spreads and affects the infecting tissue.
This lesion is often found in the penis, labia or the anal region.
Treatment of Granuloma Inguinale:
Granuloma Inguinale spreads by contact.
Oral,Vaginal or Anal contact are extremely risky things to engage with someone affected with Granuloma Inguinale.
To treat the disease, the patients sexual history is requested as only a few doctors are able to diagnose Granuloma Inguinale at first site and most others will require to test the stain in order to better ascertain the disease.
Granuloma Inguinale is treated by erythromycin, streptomycin, ampicillinor tetracyline.
The disease can be combated by using antibiotics and therefore the appearence of the disease in countried like the United States is very less.
